Our ebonized bowls are created using a natural darkening method which allows the wood's grain to be visible. The ebonization process reacts with tannins in the wood, generating deep black and brown shades. Oak is a well-loved hardwood, renowned for its robustness, weight and straight grain; these bowls are crafted from oak and sustainably sourced from New England.

Spencer is always on the lookout for fallen trees rotting in the woods of central New England. Hidden in those fallen trees is wood disfigured by the beginnings of decomposition. His process of turning that wood on a lathe, followed by drying, sanding, and finishing with natural products, results in these striking bowls. Each bowl creates its own unique story, from the forest, to the lathe, to your kitchen or dining table.
